Rising out of the ashes of various dead bands, Fool’s Union was formed in 2017 in Hamilton, Ontario by Nick Cino (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Jon Daly (Lead Guitar), and Dave Marini (Bass, Vocals). Born out of a need to rock as hard as possible, FU wanted to be a band that brought together all their favourite musical influences, from ferocious hard rock to timeless soul melodies. Throughout it all they’ve focused on writing catchy as fuck tunes with big guitars, pounding drums, and memorable melodies that stick in your head in the best way. The band’s sound has been compared to Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Oasis, Black Crowes, and Weezer.

Since their inception, Fool’s Union have released a cascade of rock singles, each catchier and stronger than the one before. Never ones to repeat themselves, they treasure the craft of songwriting and aim to make every tune they release stand on its own as well as fit within a larger whole. It can be a big, anthemic rock song (“Break Through”, “Live Action”), a country-eqsue guitar stomp (“Maniacs”, “America”) or an emotional ballad (“Under The Thunder”, “Raven Lake”) – whatever the song, Fool’s Union write tracks that stand the test of time. Lyrically, the band has explored themes like the dangers of social media, toxic relationships, and escaping everyday life.

The members of Fool’s Union are also no strangers to the live stage – individually and collectively they’ve performed over 1,000 live shows and rocked stages across the globe, including stops in Europe, Western Canada, and the US. Whether it be playing an hour of original tunes or kicking out the jams all night long with their favourite cover songs, Fool’s Union have consistently impressed audiences with their excellent musicianship, tight harmonies, and electrifying live show. Name a live venue, and chances are that the members of Fool’s Union have rocked it in one form or another over their career. They’ve been lucky enough to share stages with bands like The Sheepdogs, USS, Danko Jones, The Beaches, Wide Mouth Mason, and more.

The new single “America” is a love letter to the country in which many bands want to break it big. Like other Canadian acts before them, they see America as the promised land where bands go to realize their musical dreams. The boys have made the pilgrimage to the US a few times during their career, playing stages in New York City’s Bowery district, filming videos in Times Square, rocking out in Cleveland, and soaking up the sun in San Diego—the experiences have consistently been magical. The band’s love of American hard rock has always been tempered by an equal love of Motown soul, sun-drenched Beach Boys-esque harmonies, and Black Crowes-style southern rock. The influence of the US on Fool’s Union’s brand of rock ‘n’ roll runs deep. 

“America” combines the Southern roots rock sound of The Band and the catchy Brit rock stomp of Oasis into an undeniably memorable three minutes of music. If America needs a new national anthem, here it is.
